Many of the following Internet sites allow you to apply for jobs online and/or post your resume. Always read the site's terms, conditions, and privacy policy before contributing information about yourself.

Web Resource Directories

  • JobWeb - (National Association of Colleges and Employers) Sample resumes, interviewing tips, a career library and more.
  • The Riley Guide: Employment Opportunities and Job Resources on the Internet - (compiled by Margaret F. Dikel, MSLIS) A guide to employment and job resources web sites. Divided into categories such as resumes & cover letters, targeting & researching employers, salary guides, etc. All web sites listed are annotated. Topics are also listed in an A-Z index for quick reference.

Job Boards

  • Job Search USA - Job listings with geographic search capacity. Can also browse jobs by career.
  • 50 States: K-12 Employment Opportunities - (College of Education, University of Kentucky) Links to job opportunities in education in most of the 50 states.
  • Careers in Business - Using the Find Jobs link, search job lists by job category. Brief information is also provided on different business careers. Registration may be required to apply for jobs online.
  • Chronicle Careers - (The Chronicle of Higher Education) Search for college and university jobs by keyword or browse jobs by category. Community college and adjunct/part-time jobs are also listed.
  • DiversityInc - Job postings are available under the Find a Job link. Free registration is required to post a resume or apply for jobs online. Most features of the site require a paid subscription to access. 
  • Employment - Job Seeker - (State of Wisconsin) Look for jobs in the state of Wisconsin. Both public and private sector jobs are listed, including K-12 education positions. Search by keyword, category, or location. Registration required to post a resume or apply online.
  • WISCJOBS: The Official Employment Site of the Wisconsin State Government - (Wisconsin Office of State Employment Relations) Look for jobs in state government, including the UW System. Registration required to apply online.
  • Hotjobs - (Yahoo!) Search jobs by keyword and/or category, or browse by industry or state. The Career Tools tab leads to information on resume writing, salaries, and more. A Yahoo ID is needed to post a resume or apply for jobs online.
  • Planet Recruit - International job vacancies, particularly in the fields of IT, engineering, and electronics.
  • Monster.com - Search by keyword, location, and/or job category. Registration needed to post a resume or apply online.
  • NationJob.com - Search for jobs by category or by keyword.
  • Job Center of Wisconsin - (Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development) Links to job openings in Wisconsin, as well as links to other information for job seekers.

  • Careerpath.com - Take a self-assessment test to determine possible careers. Career guidance articles are also provided.
  • Career and Leadership Development - (UW-W-Whitewater) Information on the job search, careers, internships, and much more. Includes a link to the Career Center's eRecruiting service, HawkQuest. A must-see for UWW students!
  • CareerOneStop - (U.S. Department of Labor) Information on exploring careers, salaries and benefits, resumes and interviews, the job search, and more.
  • Monster Career Advice - (Monster.com) Get tips on resumes and interviewing, find information on salaries, and more. Some services require a fee.
  • Vault.com - (Vault, Inc.) A wide variety of career resources including a message board. Some parts of the site require registration and some services require a fee.

  • EdgarScan - (PricewaterhouseCoopers) This site is an interface to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval (SEC EDGAR) Filings.
  • Hoover's - Brief company facts, links to web pages, annual reports, stock quotes, and news. More advanced information requires a subscription.
  • ThomasNet - Search the directory of United States manufacturers, distributors, and service providers by state, product, brand, or company name.

Electronic Journals

  • Entrepreneur.com - Includes Entrepreneur magazine. An archive of past issues is also available.
  • Occupational Outlook Handbook - (U.S. Department of Labor) Gives descriptions of jobs and careers, including such information as working conditions, qualifications needed, job outlook, and earnings. Also available in Andersen Library in print in the US Documents Stacks under the call number L 2.3/4:. Note: The most current print edition is kept at the Reference Desk.

Franchise Information

  • FranchiseHandbook.com - (Enterprise Magazines, Milwaukee) A franchise directory, articles, and contact information for franchise associations in other countries are some of the features of this site.
