ERIC Clearinghouse Changes
The content of this page last updated May 13, 2005.
Purpose of this Page
The purpose of this page is to track the changes made to the ERIC database and to track the migration of the content from the ERIC Clearinghouses to other internet sources.
In 2003 when Congress reauthorized the funding for the Educational Resource Information Center (ERIC), funding was not extended to the 16 ERIC Clearinghouses. Instead, the ERIC database will be run by a single contractor through a single information point (http://www.eric.ed.gov/). On March 18, 2004, a contract was awarded to Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) of Rockville, Md. CSC was the previous holder of the ERIC Facility and the EDRS contracts.
In September, a new interface to the ERIC database is introduced at http://www.eric.ed.gov/ On October 1, 2004, CSC unveiled free full text access to most ERIC documents (non-journal documents) published from 1993 to 2004.
More changes are coming to ERIC. CSC and a steering committee (members yet to be named) will be evaluating the ERIC document submission process, the ERIC Thesaurus and other ERIC components. For more information on the changes with ERIC and its related components, please see Eric Reauthorization News as compiled by Kate Corby, Education and Psychology Bibliographer, Michigan State University Libraries.
