Area High School Visits: Library Instruction & Usage
Arranging Visits
- Please contact the reference librarians at 262-472-1032 at least two weeks before arriving on campus and describe the course subject, the size of the class, and the time period the students will be in the library.
- If formal instruction by a campus reference librarian is desired, please provide information about the group's specific research assignment(s). Since priority is given to campus classes needing instruction, it is advisable to plan the visit for the second half of the academic semester.
- Arrange for borrowing privileges ahead of time, if students will need to check out materials.
Policy on borrowing privileges for high school students
High school students are not eligible for a UW-W Library Community Borrower's Card. Individual students may be eligible for one-time borrowing privileges by presenting a letter from their high school librarian indicating that they have exhausted the resources at their library. There are no renewal privileges and there is a limit of five items that may be checked out.
Local high school teachers who bring their class to the library for a library instruction session or for a research day may check out material for the students in their class. The instructor must have a valid UW-W Library Community Borrower's Card and accept full responsibility for the return of all material charged to that card. S/he must also accept full responsibility for any fines or lost material charges imposed by the late return or loss of the material charged on the card. The limit of five items will be waived and there will be no renewals on the material.
Photocopying in the Library
Photocopiers accept cash. Copies costs 10 cents per page.
Printing and Scanning in the Library
Printing from Library computer workstations costs 10 cents per page. Scanners are free, but limited in number. Alternatively, students should come prepared to download (bringing their own flash memory) or e-mail online full-text materials.
