SuperSearch: Open, Drop-In Sessions on How to Use It
Location: University Library Bibliographic Instruction Laboratory (Andersen Library building L2211)
Sessions:

  • Tuesday, October 11, 2-2:30 p.m. (instructor: Jennie Vano)

  • Wednesday, October 19, 9-9:30 a.m. (instructor: Martha Stephenson)

This powerful new tool allows you to search up to eight databases at once, including databases from different vendors. In the past, if you wanted to search Ebscohost's Business Source Elite and ProQuest's ABI/Inform databases you would have to search them one at a time. SuperSearch will allow both to be searched at once! Can't make these sessions? Call the Reference staff to arrange for a session for your department, office, or for an individual appointment: 262-472-5521.

New Staff

Branden Mc Cready, formerly a student worker for the Library Automation Manager, has joined the Library staff as an LTE in Circulation/Reserves. In addition to working at the Circulation Desk, he'll be working with Universal Borrowing and ILLiad interlibrary loan requests.

ChoiceReviews Online Trial

A trial of Choice online is available until the end of October 2005. Choice is currently a monthly print subscription (a periodical issue and a set of cards) providing reviews of "significant current books and electronic resources of interest to those in higher education. Each year it publishes more than 6,500 reviews by subject experts." The cards are circulated to UW-W faculty library representatives in each academic department as one resource to use when selecting titles to be added to the Library's collection.

The online version, which like the print is updated monthly, allows searching for reviews of particular book titles and authors, or searching for books on a topic by either browsing subject areas or searching for keywords. Reviews published since September 1988 are included. There is a link to the trial on the Library's homepage at library.uww.edu, near the bottom of the purple sidebar. Off-Campus access requires a UW-W login.

Faculty: Please let us know if this resource is helpful in making selections for the Library's collections (rather than continuing to circulate the cards from Choice). E-mail library@uww.edu. Thank you!
