Universal Borrowing: Free Access to UW System Libraries!

UW-Whitewater students and staff now may use the free Universal Borrowing service to obtain books and other materials from other University of Wisconsin System libraries. The user may request that materials be sent to a particular UW System library for pick-up. Not all library materials will be available: typically periodical, reference, course reserves and special collections titles will not be sent.

How to make a request:

  1. Select UW libraries to search:
    • In the Andersen Library Catalog, select "Other Catalogs."
    • Select one or more libraries from the "Universal Borrower Libraries" list:
Eau Claire, La Crosse, River Falls, Stevens Point, and Stout campus libraries as of November 1. Other campuses will be joining as time goes on.
    • Click on the "Connect" button.
  2. Search for desired materials.
The number of matching records in each selected library's catalog will display.
  3. Click on "Show" to display search results, then select a desired item from the list.
  4. Click on "Requests" and log in (see below).
  5. On the next screen, with "UB" selected in the box, click the "OK" button.
  6. Enter your UW-Whitewater 7-digit number again and select a pick-up location. Click on "Submit Request."
  7. This service is FAST. Requested items should be available for pick-up at the Circulation Desk within 2-4 weekdays.
Login information:
  • Barcode: your UW-Whitewater ID number (7-digit middle segment on a campus ID card).
  • Password: your last name (no hyphens).

How to check the status of a request:

In the Andersen Library Catalog, click on "Personal Record" and login (see above).

Questions?
What if the items you need are not available in a Universal Borrower library? Fill out an interlibrary loan request form, available from the Reference or Circulation desks. When the requested item(s) arrive, you will be contacted and the item(s) will be available at the Circulation Desk for pick-up. There is a $1 charge for each item requested through interlibrary loan.

If you have additional questions or any difficulties with Universal Borrowing, please contact circulation staff (call 262-472-5511) or reference librarians (call 262-472-1032 or e-mail refdesk) for assistance.

Undergraduate Loan Period Extended

Undergrads: Keep your books longer!

Beginning November 1st, undergraduates may check out books and government documents from Andersen Library for 28 days (previously 2 weeks). The loan period for videos remains 1 week.

Materials that were checked out before November 1st are due 2 weeks after they were checked out, which is reflected on the "Date Due" slip inserted into the pocket inside materials and in the Andersen Library Catalog. Remember that materials may be renewed through the Andersen Library Catalog, unless another patron has requested them, or you have already renewed them.

To check due dates or to renew materials:
In the
Andersen Library Catalog, click on "Personal Record" and login (see login information above).

When Are Your Library Materials Due?

As of November 1st, the Circulation staff will no longer insert "Date Due" slips into materials when they are checked out. How will you know when the materials are due to be returned to avoid fines?!

The Andersen Library Catalog enables all UW-Whitewater students, faculty, staff, and community borrowers to see what materials they have checked out and when they are due.

To check due dates or to renew materials:
In the
Andersen Library Catalog, click on "Personal Record" and login (see login information above).

Recent Acquisitions

Library staff are continuing to improve the Andersen Library Catalog as the semester progresses. A new function is
Recent Acquisitions searching, which allows users to request a list of materials received and processed within the most recent 1-4 weeks. It is possible to limit the list to a particular collection, such as the Main Collection, McNaughton recreational reading collection, videos, compact discs, reference, etc.

Staff Changes

  • Deronica Goldsmith joined the Circulation/Reserves staff this October.
  • Debbie Marohnich, who was an LTE in Circulation/Reserves, has left the Library and now works in Admissions.
