UW Digital Collections Easy to Find
Links to the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections have been added to the University Library's database listings and the Andersen Library Catalog. Search the Andersen Library Catalog for titles of specific collections (such as the James Joyce Scholars' Collection, Portal to Asian Internet Resources, and A History of the Crusades), or to see a list of the collections do a keyword search for UWDC?. On the Library's alphabetical list of databases see the collective entry "University of Wisconsin Digital Collections."
Faculty Checkouts at UW-Madison
UW System faculty and staff will again receive semester loan with 6 renewals for books from selected UW-Madison libraries (including Memorial Library).Thirty UW-Madison libraries had agreed to provide 28-day book loans (with one renewal) to UW System faculty, staff and students through Universal Borrowing. This was a change in practice for some Madison campus libraries, such as Memorial Library, which previously had offered a semester loan with 6 renewals for UW System faculty and staff; the same loan privileges as given to UW-Madison faculty and staff. In response to complaints about this reduction in service, the former policy has been reinstated. UW System faculty and staff will again receive semester loan with 6 renewals for books from these UW-Madison campus libraries: Business, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Memorial, Music, Physics, Social Science Reference and Wendt Engineering. Other UW-Madison libraries continue to provide 28-day loan with one renewal. UWS students will continue to receive 28-day loans with one renewal.

Database News
- Educational Resource Information Center (ERIC)
- ERIC is a national information system providing bibliographic access to journals articles and other published and unpublished materials in the field of education. It is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education. When Congress reauthorized funding for ERIC, funding was not provided for continuing the system of subject-specific clearinghouses, each of which had been responsible for acquiring, indexing and abstracting resources in its area of expertise for inclusion in the ERIC database. The clearinghouses closed on December 19, 2003. As of January 2004 no new materials will be received and selected for the ERIC database, however, materials already selected by the clearinghouses in 2003 will be added. In the future ERIC will be provided by a single contractor. Jennie Vano, liaison to the College of Education, has created a webpage to track the migration of ERIC clearinghouse information & services and the status of the ERIC database at http://library.uww.edu/subject/ericchanges.htm.
