About EBSCOhost

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater provides access to EBSCOhost databases in two ways, although to the user it all appears the same. Some of the databases are provided through BadgerLink, and the rest are subscribed to by Andersen Library itself.

The basic EBSCOhost databases are provided through BadgerLink, and are RESTRICTED to Wisconsin residents. This subscription is part of a project of the Division for Libraries and Community Learning of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Funding is provided through the Federal Library Services and Technology Act.

Other specialty databases are subscribed to by the University. These are RESTRICTED to students, faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Non-University Wisconsin residents will not see these databases when they log in to EBSCOhost.

EBSCOhost is available on and off-campus via the Internet. UW-W students, faculty and staff will be asked to enter their Net-ID (email name) and password. If you are having trouble connecting to EBSCOhost and you get the error message "Login to EBSCOhost has failed. Please exit and login again," try clearing your browser's cache and check to see that the browser is accepting cookies (EBSCOhost Problems: Clearing Cache and Accepting Cookies).

Databases included in the BadgerLink subscription are marked with an asterix (*).

Academic Search Premier*
Academic Search offers citations and full text articles for virtually every area of academic study. . This database is updated on a daily basis. This has been updated to Academic Search Complete for UW-W students, faculty and staff.

Alt HealthWatch
Focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers full text articles for often peer-reviewed journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Alt HealthWatch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. This database features indexing and abstracts going back as far as 1984, and full text going back as far as 1990.

America: History & Life
This is the definitive index of literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present. With indexing for journals from 1964 to present, this database is without question the most important bibliographic reference tool for students and scholars of U.S. and Canadian history.

Book Collection Nonfiction: Elementary School Edition *
A rich research database for school and public libraries. It contains informative abstracts and searchable full text for popular nonfiction books. The database includes high interest titles on animals, weather, holidays, Native Americans, United States, Canada, biographies, civics and more.

Book Collection Nonfiction: High School Edition *
A rich research database for school and public libraries. It contains informative abstracts and searchable full text for popular nonfiction books. The database includes high interest titles on careers, health, ethnicity, disabilities, technology, biographies, music, science, history, civics and more.

Book Collection Nonfiction: Middle School Edition *
A rich research database for school and public libraries. It contains informative abstracts and searchable full text for popular nonfiction books. The database includes high interest titles on careers, health, ethnicity, disabilities, technology, biographies, history, science, women, civics and more.

Business Source Elite *
This database provides full text for scholarly business journals, including full text for peer-reviewed business publications. The rich collection of titles in Business Source Elite provides information dating back to 1985. This database is updated on a daily basis. This has been updated to Business Source Premier for UW-W students, faculty and staff.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text
The world's most comprehensive source of full text for nursing & allied health journals, providing full text for journals indexed in CINAHL. This authoritative file contains full text for many of the most used journals in the index.

Communication & Mass Media Complete
Provides the most robust, quality research solution in areas related to communication and mass media. Incorporates numerous journals in communication, mass media, and other closely-related fields of study to create a research and reference resource of unprecedented scope and depth encompassing the breadth of the communication discipline. Offers cover-to-cover (“core”) indexing and abstracts for more than 500 journals, and selected (“priority”) coverage of nearly 200 more, for a combined coverage of more than 690 titles. Furthermore, this database includes full text journal articles.

Education Research Complete
Covers all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and educational specialties. Indexes and abstracts for over 1,500 journals, plus fulltext for more than 750 journals, 100 books and monographs, and numerous education-related conference papers.

Educational Administration Abstracts
Includes bibliographic records covering areas related to educational administration, including educational leadership, educational management, educational research, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline.

Environment Complete
Offers deep coverage in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, renewable energy sources, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. Contains more than records from domestic and international titles going back to the 1940s (including 1,125 core titles). The database also contains full text for journals and monographs.

ERIC *
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia*
This database provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

GreenFILE
Offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts records, as well as Open Access full text.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
This database provides more than 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. This database is updated on a daily basis.

Health Source - Consumer Edition*
This database is the richest collection of consumer health information available to libraries worldwide, providing information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Health Source - Consumer Edition features searchable full text for nearly 300 journals. This database is updated on a daily basis.

Historical Abstracts
An exceptional resource that covers the history of the world (excluding the United States and Canada) from 1450 to the present, including world history, military history, women's history, history of education, and more. This authoritative database provides indexing of academic historical journals in over 40 languages back to 1955.

History Reference Center
Offers full text from reference books, encyclopedias and non-fiction books, cover to cover full text for leading history periodicals, historical documents,  biographies of historical figures, historical photos and maps, and hours of historical video.

Humanities International Index
The American Humanities Index, produced by Whitston Publishing, is a collection of bibliographic references to literary, scholarly and creative journals published in the United States and Canada. This database contains over 1,000 journals published from 1975 to the present.

Lexi-PALS Drug Guide
A database of Patient Advisory Leaflets from Lexi-Comp that provides vital education on medications for patients. The approach for each pamphlet is to present each medication in an easy to follow and understand question-and-answer format. The database consists medication and natural product leaflets, with additional Spanish language leaflets representing the most subscribed and commonly used medications. The database is updated monthly.

LGBT Life with Full Text
Contains all of the content available in LGBT Life as well as full text for the most important and historically significant LGBT journals, magazines and regional newspapers, as well full-text monographs and books. The database includes comprehensive indexing and abstract coverage.

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts with Full Text
Indexes core journals, priority journals, and selective journals; plus books, research reports and proceedings. This database also contains full text for more than 240 journals. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Coverage in the database extends back as far as the mid-1960s.

Literary Reference Center
A comprehensive literary reference database, which provides users with a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day. Combines information from books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else. Contains detailed information on the most studied authors and their works and is an essential resource for public, academic and high school libraries.

MAS Ultra - School Edition
Designed specifically for high school libraries, this database contains full text for popular, high school magazines. Also provides full text reference books, biographies, primary source documents, and an Image Collection photos, maps & flags, color PDFs and expanded full text backfiles (back to 1975) for key magazines.

MasterFILE Premier*
Designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for more than 2,000 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also includes nearly 450 full text reference books, 84,074 biographies, 86,135 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags. This database is updated daily.

MEDLINE
Provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE allows users to search abstracts from over 4,800 current biomedical journals.

Mental Measurements Yearbook
Provides users with a comprehensive guide to contemporary testing instruments. Designed for an audience ranging from novice test consumers to experienced professionals, the series contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. The series allows users to make knowledgeable judgments and informed selection decisions about the increasingly complex world of testing. Provides coverage from Volume 9 to the present.

Middle Search Plus*
Provides full text for nearly 150 popular magazines for middle and jr. high school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990. Middle Search Plus also contains 84,074 biographies, 86,135 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags. This database is updated daily.

Military & Government Collection
Designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals, and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. The Military & Government Collection provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 400 journals and periodicals and indexing and abstracts for more than 500 titles.

MLA Directory of Periodicals
This directory offers detailed information on over 7,100 journals, with 4,400 currently indexed in the International Bibliography. The detailed entries include editorial contact information, as well as frequency, circulation, subscription prices and submission guidelines.

MLA International Bibliography
A bibliography of journal articles, books and dissertations. Produced by the Modern Language Association, the electronic version of the bibliography dates back to 1963 and contains over 1.6 million citations from more than 4,400 journals and series and 1,000 book publishers.

National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts
Provides users with information thoroughly covering the fields of law enforcement and criminal justice. The database contains summaries publications including books, government reports, research reports, and unpublished research. It also includes content from journals, including 12 with core coverage. Content dates range from 1970 to the present.

Newspaper Source
Provides selected full text for nearly 30 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.

Political Science Complete
Provides full text for over 400 publications, and cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for more journals. The database also features full-text reference books and monographs, and full text conference papers, including those of the International Political Science Association.

Primary Search*
Provides full text for more than 60 popular, magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990. This database is updated daily.

Professional Development Collection
Designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of more than 550 high quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports. Professional Development Collection is the most comprehensive collection of full text education journals in the world.

PsycARTICLES
A definitive source of searchable full text articles on current issues in psychology. The database contains more than 39,000 searchable full text articles from 44 journals published by the American Psychological Association and 8 from allied organizations. It contains all journal articles, letters to the editor and errata from each of the 52 journals. Coverage spans from 1985 to the present.

PsycINFO
Contains over two million citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as 1840. Journal coverage, which dates back to the 1800s, includes international material selected from nearly 2,000 periodicals in over 24 languages. More than 65,000 records are added each year.

Regional Business News
This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated on a daily basis.

RILM Abstracts of Music Literature
A comprehensive music bibliography featuring citations, abstracts, and indexes. There are records in RILM on traditional music, popular music, and classical music, representing disciplines that include musicology, ethnomusicology, pedagogy, psychology, anthropology, sociology and others. All document types and media such as books, conference proceedings (going back to 1835), journal articles, dissertations as well as internet resources, sound recordings and motion pictures are included.

Science Reference Center
A comprehensive research database that provides easy access to a multitude of full text science-oriented content. This database contains full text for  science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, etc. Topics covered include: biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health & medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife.

Social Work Abstracts
Offers extensive coverage of social work and human services journals dating back to 1965. The database provides citations and abstracts dealing with all aspects of the social work field, including theory and practice, areas of service and social issues and problems.

SocINDEX with Full Text
The world's most comprehensive and highest quality sociology research database. The database features  records with subject headings from a sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers. Contains full text for journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for  books, monographs, and conference papers.

SPORTDiscus
Provided by the Sport Information Resource Centre, SPORTDiscus offers comprehensive, bibliographic coverage of sport, fitness and related disciplines. This database contains over 650,000 records with journal and monograph coverage going back to 1800.

Tests in Print
A comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language. Provides vital information to users including test purpose, test publisher, in-print status, price, test acronym, intended test population, administration times, publication date(s), and test author(s).

Women's Studies International
Covers the core disciplines in Women’s Studies to the latest scholarship in feminist research. Coverage spans from 1972 and earlier to present. This database supports curriculum development in the areas of sociology, history, political science & economy, public policy, international relations, arts & humanities, business and education.

Philosopher's Index
Philosopher's Index, produced by the Philosopher's Information Center, is a current and comprehensive bibliographic database covering scholarly research in all major fields of philosophy. The Philosopher’s Index, considered the most thorough index of journal literature on the subject, features author-written abstracts covering scholarly research published in journals and books, including contributions to anthologies and book reviews. The Philosopher's Index contains research published since 1940 including nearly 570 journals from 43 countries with content representing a variety of languages.
