What are Limits?
Limits may be set in the Basic or Advanced Search mode to reduce the total number of search results, so that the Catalog will only retrieve records that have specific characteristics. Limits supplement, but do not replace, search terms. Limits may be set for Keyword, Title and Journal Title searches. For example, let's suppose you are looking for a video on autistic children. A Keyword search using the terms autistic and child? finds 96 items. However, if you select "Videorecording" from the Quick Limit menu and rerun the search, the Catalog retrieves only the 12 video and DVDrecords.
Please note:
- Limits CANNOT be used in Author, Subject Heading or Call Number browses
- Limits must be set BEFORE a search is entered
- Limits are in effect until cleared. Clicking on removes all limits
