Search By Menus & Options

Search By: Each Search For textbox is followed by a Boolean logic drop-down menu and a Search By drop-down menu. Each Search By menu determines which field(s) of the Catalog will be searched. For example, if the words kill mockingbird are typed in a textbox, with all of these selected as the logic and Title Keyword selected from the Search By menu, only records for items with both words somewhere in the title would be found.
NOTE: Only the textbox on the same line as the limiter is affected.

Search By: Each field in an item record contains a specific type of data about the item. You can limit the scope, or breadth, of an Advanced Search using these fields:

• Keyword Anywhere (default option) - Searches every field, so does not limit the results.
• ISBN - Searches only the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) field. An ISBN is a unique ID number for books.
• Author Keyword - Searches only the author and personal name fields.
• Title Keyword - Searches the title, alternate title, former title, subtitle, etc.
• ISSN - Searches only the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) field. An ISSN is a unique ID number for serials (journals, magazines, etc.).
• Subject Keyword - Searches only the subject fields. In contrast to searching by Subject Heading in the Basic Search, which finds terms at the beginning of the subject, this finds the terms anywhere in the field.
• Publisher: Date - Searches only the field containing an item's publication date.
• Personal Name - Searches only the personal name field.
• Publisher Name - Searches for only the publisher name field.
• Series - Searches only series title field.
• Table of Contents - Searches only the table of contents field. Not every item record has this information included.
• Corporate Name - Searches only the corporate name field, which contains government agency names, etc.
