MLA (Modern Language Association) International Bibliography is the largest and most comprehensive database covering scholarship in the modern languages, linguistics, literature, folklore, and drama, including film, opera, radio and television from 1963 to the present. Literary criticism and theory are covered extensively. When researching these subject areas it is the best place to start.

  • MLA is not a full text database. When you find a citation, check Library holdings:

Caution: "You must use MLA." This could be either use the MLA International Bibliography, or use the MLA writing and citation style. If unsure which one you are supposed to use, consult your professor for clarification. If using the style, the library has a quick online introductory guide to Citing References: MLA Style and the definitive style manuals: MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing. 2nd ed., PN147 .G44 1998 and MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. 6th ed., 2003, LB2369 .G53 2003, both kept at the Reference Desk.
