Subject Heading List Example

This is a screen print from the catalog showing a Subject Heading List, which is the result of a search by Subject Heading for jargon.

The first column is the Number column, which includes a number denoting the order of the heading on the result list, starting with one at the top, and proceeding down the page. There may also be in a "Note" or "More Info" button in this column. These buttons are described below the picture in the main document.

The second column is the Titles column, which shows the number of items in Andersen Library that use the subject heading in column three.

The third column is the Headings column, which lists the subject heading most closely resembling, and alphabetically following, the one that was searched for. In this example the subject headings listed are: Jargon (Terminology); Jargons; Jarlshof, Scotland; Jarmen, Derek, 1942 - Health.

The fourth column is the Headings Type column, which lists the type of subject heading included in column three. The most common type of heading in the catalog is an LC Subject Heading, although you may see others, such as Medical Subject Headings, NASA Thesaurus and more.
