Program: 7:30 pm Laurie Lawlor will be reading from her book This Tender Place: The Story of a Wetland Year.
Laurie Lawlor is the author of thirty-three books for children and young adults and recipient of many awards including the Carl Sandburg Award for Children’s Literature, the Golden Kite Honor Book for Nonfiction, and the 2006 Wisconsin Library Association Outstanding Achievement Book Award. She teaches writing at Columbia College in Chicago and also serves on the board of the Wisconsin Wetland Association. This Tender Place, set in southeastern Wisconsin and based on research conducted in the archives held in the University Library, is described as “a story of refuge and renewal refracted through the lens of life within wetlands – among the most productive, yet most endangered, ecosystems in the world”.

Ten Tips for Better Photos by Charles Cottle, UW-Whitewater Professor, Department of Political Science
During this session, Dr. Cottle will present a few tips on how to take better pictures. Using his own photos from China, Mexico, Ecuador, and Wisconsin he will show examples of what seems to work, and what doesn't. He will also offer a few ideas, with examples, about the relative merits of digital versus film photography. Check out Dr. Cottle's photos at http://cecfoto.com/

Container Gardening by Amy Sanders, the perennial grower, and Patty Kuper, sales manager, of Pesche's Greenhouse, Floral Shop & Gift Barn, on Highway 50 just west of Lake Geneva
During this session, they will have a hand out called "Container Design Book for Gardener's " by Proven Winner's. Proven Winners is a major supplier of bedding, grasses, shrubs and potted plants which are often featured on P. Allen Smith's public television gardening show. Their slogan is "a better garden starts with better plants".
