The University Archives is the official repository for the permanent records of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The collection includes materials that document the history, development, traditions, and activities of the University since its establishment in 1868. With certain statutory exceptions, University Archives materials are open for public use. The following are examples of available records:
- Minneiska, 1909-1991 (Campus yearbook)
- Campus directories and bulletins
- Royal Purple, 1901 to present (Campus newspaper)
- UW-W Reporter
- University photograph collection
- Minutes and published reports of University committees
- University scrapbooks
The Archivist also serves as the University Records Manager and the Custodian of the Records. Questions regarding proper records retention and disposition procedures and custody of the records should be directed to the Archivist at (262) 472-5520. Records Management Workshop, a PowerPoint presentation from May 2005, provides some basic information about records retention.
Special Collections
Special Collections houses those materials, which for reasons of rarity, format, or association with the University or local community, have been separated from the Main, Reference, or Government Documents Collections. Housed here are a complete set of the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps for Wisconsin , a select group of nineteenth-century British literary periodicals, a collection of works on Custer and the Battle of the Little Big Horn , and the official copy of UW-W theses. Other strengths are the Leon R. Pescheret print collection , faculty publications and local history materials and house history resources for Rock, Jefferson, and Walworth Counties. A searchable digitized version of the Walworth County Plat Map (1857) is accessible from the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections.
