• National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST)
• Frontline: Testing Our Schools
  A Frontline program, original airdate of March 28, 2002, on No Child Left Behind and standardized testing.
• Field Tested Learning Guide
  Created by college level faculty for use in science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses at UW-Madison. This website describes both assessment techniques and provides specific assessments for science content areas. Great examples of how to use minute papers, scoring rubrics and other assessment techniques.

Bilingual Education/ESL

• Dave's ESL Café
  For those learning or teaching English as a foreign language or second language. ESL teaching links and lists of ESL web resources, teaching resources, lessons, materials, software, message boards, and job listings. The ESL HELP CENTER link is a 24-hour, 7 days a week help resource.
• English as a Second Language Home Page
  Web sites for ESL learners who want to learn English through the Web. The sites for ESL teachers include lesson plans and ESL job openings.
• National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition and Language Instruction Educational Programs
  An extensive source of information for individuals working in foreign language programs, English as a Second Language programs, Head Start, Title 1, Migrant Education, or Adult Education programs. Includes job listings, lists of publishers and distributors of materials for linguistically diverse students, lesson ideas, etc.

Children's Literature

• Children's Literature: Selection and Criticism
  Use this guide from UWW's Andersen Library to find excellent resources for selecting books for children and young adults.
• Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site
  A collection of reviews of books for children, ideas of ways to use them in the classroom; and collections of books and activities about particular subjects, curriculum areas, themes and professional topics.
• Children's Books Online: the Rosetta Project, Inc.
  According to the Web site, this is the largest collection of antique children's books online.
• Cooperative Children's Books Center (CCBC)
  Find lists and reviews of children's and young adult literature. Of particular interest is the "Wisconsin authors" section, featuring information on authors and illustrators with connections to the state of Wisconsin.
• Lion and the Unicorn
  A critical journal of children's literature. Access is through Project Muse. 

Learning Disabilities

• LD Online: The interactive guide to learning disabilities for parents, teachers, and children
  Includes a wealth of information, such as reprints of selected articles and research papers, a listing of national and local organizations, a comprehensive listing of LD conferences, personal essays by those with LD, bulletin boards, LD chat rooms, and an LD store with recommended books and videotapes.

School Administration

• Education World: Administration Resources
  Links to a variety of web sites of interest to school administrators. Includes information on associations, disaster preparedness, education and technology, education legislation, education research, education statistics, female leadership, listservs, professional development, etc.

Science Projects

• The Learning Studio
  Access detailed instructions for making science and learning projects from The Exploratorium, a museum in San Francisco, which focuses on inquiry-based teaching and learning in the K-12 classroom. Includes over 400 reviews of the best science, art, and education sites.
• MAD Scientist Network
  An interactive Web site dedicated to answering questions in all areas of science.
• The Science Club
  A very good resource for students, teachers, and parents. Collections of science projects, some categorized by level of difficulty. Links to question-and-answer sites, to other science fair sites, and to science education resources. Also, a science fair ideas exchange.
• Science Fair Project Resource Guide
  An annotated list of web sites on various aspects of doing a science fair project. How to do a science fair project, samples of completed projects, ideas for projects, and general science resources are provided.

Software

• WITRC Online Software Library
  The Wisconsin Instructional Instructional Technology Resource Center (WITRC) is located in room 1006 of Winther Hall and provides technology support to College of Education students and faculty. Use the online software library for a list of online software resources, including links to many free trials.

Standards

• Wisconsin Model Academic Standards
  Links to the Department of Public Instruction's model standards in various subject curriculum areas.
• Common Core State Standards Initiative
  Organized by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the focus of this initiative is to provide educators, parents, and the public with a set of educational standards for the nation.

Statistical Data

• SchoolMatters
  Database of statistics on public schools. Includes data for student achievement information, financial data and demographic breakdowns. Select state then search by school, school district, city or zip code.
• NCES (National Center for Education Statistics)
  The NCES collects, collates, analyzes, and reports complete statistics on the condition of American education; conducts and publishes reports; and reviews and reports on education activities internationally. An excellent site for anything related to education statistics.
• UNESCO - Education
  Find education-related news, research, initiatives, and statistics worldwide.
